Complete Cosmetic Care

We believe that the key to healthy skin is good self-care and wellness, and that cosmetic treatments are supplemental to helping you present your best self. We encourage a balanced lifestyle, including sun protection and proper skin care. Personalized cosmetic treatments can then add another dimension to your treatment plan.

Injectables and Fillers

Botox® and Dysport® are solutions injected to temporarily improve fine lines and wrinkles caused by facial expressions. During the procedure, small amounts of toxin are injected into the skin to stop the underlying muscles from moving, resulting in relaxation of the affected area and smoothing of the skin. Treatment with toxins are indicated for individuals who wish to soften and reduce existing lines that contribute to a tired look, and to prevent fine lines and wrinkles and maintain a smooth youthful look. Concerns that can be treated include the following:

Frown lines between the eyebrows (the 11’s)
Forehead lines
Crow’s feet
Bunny lines of the nose
Vertical lip lines around the mouth
Excessive down-turning of the corners of the mouth
Pebbled chin
Platysmal bands of the neck
Gummy smile
Excess flaring of the nostrils

Treatments are quick, requiring only 10-15 minutes, with minimal downtime. Results can last for 3-6 months, depending upon the area treated.

Toxin injections can be used to treat excess sweating and clenching of the teeth at night.

Toxin can be added to custom serums delivered via the Aquagold device to help tighten pores and minimize sebaceous gland activity.

Fillers are injectables used to restore volume and enhance youthful contours of the cheekbones, face and lips. Composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring component of the skin, hyaluronic acid binds water and contributes to the natural fullness and moisture of the skin. We offer a wide selection of fillers including Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Revanesse® products. Fillers are versatile and may be used for the following:

To lift and contour cheeks for a more youthful look
To fill and soften parentheses lines and marionette lines around the mouth
To lift and soften corner lines at the edges of the mouth
To plump and enhance lips
To soften vertical lines around the lips

During the treatment, a small needle is used to inject the gel into the desired areas. Topical numbing cream and ice packs are available to maximize comfort. Mild swelling, redness and discomfort may occur following the procedure, though should resolve quickly. Results can last for 6-12 months or longer.

Kybella is an injection that provides non-surgical removal of unwanted fat under the chin, called submental fullness or a “double chin”. Kybella is composed of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a chemical that permanently removes fat cells. The treatment consists of multiple small injections into the area of unwanted fat. The procedure is repeated every 4 weeks, for an average of 2-3 sessions. Mild swelling, bruising, and numbness may occur in the treated area following the injections, though resolve over days to weeks.

Additional treatment options for a double chin include Agnes RF and Scarlet SRF.

Excess sweating can be caused by many processes, including infection, hormone imbalances or autoimmune diseases. Excess sweating can also be normal, in particular heavy sweating of the armpits, hands and feet. In these cases, Botox Cosmetic is an effective treatment for hyperhidrosis. The most commonly treated areas include armpits and hands. During the procedure, small injections of Botox are administered throughout the areas of excess sweating. Ice and topical numbing can be used to maximize comfort during the procedure. There is no downtime, and results may be seen as soon as 3 days and can last up to 6-9 months.

Sclerotherapy is a treatment to minimize or remove unwanted spider veins on the legs.

During the treatment, a series of small injections are performed into the unwanted blood vessels. The injected solution creates inflammation inside the blood vessels, stimulating the vessels to close and allowing the body to absorb and remove them. Compression stockings are recommended for 3 days following the procedure, and sun protection of the treated area is encouraged for up to 6 weeks. For optimal results, a series of 2-3 sessions, approximately 2-3 months apart, may be recommended.

Skin Tightening and Facial Sculpting

Scarlet SRF offers a non-surgical facelift with minimal pain and little down time. A fractional radiofrequency system, the procedure gently delivers energy directly into the dermis through non-insulated microneedle electrodes, stimulating the production of new dermal collagen and elastin. Scarlet RF may be used on the scalp, face, body or extremities for the following:

Skin tightening and lifting
Softening of fine lines and wrinkles
Reduction of pore size
Reduction of scars caused by acne, surgery, injury, or stretch marks

During the procedure, a local numbing cream is used for anesthesia, and nitrous oxide is available for comfort and relaxation. Serums or PRP may be applied to boost benefits and speed healing. Transient redness of the treatment area may last for several hours. Patients may return to wearing makeup after 1 day. Mild swelling resolves over several days. Continued improvement in texture and tone are seen progressively over a period of months.

For optimal results, a series of two treatments, 4-6 weeks apart is recommended, and single treatments may be repeated every 6-12 months for continued improvement and maintenance. Scarlet SRF is commonly combined with LaseMD for full thickness skin rejuvenation, or with Agnes for optimization of facial sculpting procedures.

Agnes RF is an innovative device that utilizes a selection of specialized microinsulated needles to deliver radiofrequency energy precisely to targets within all layers of the skin and subcutaneous fat. The treatment can be used to remove unwanted fat and simultaneously tighten the supporting connective tissues and overlying skin, selectively remove unwanted growths in the skin, and encourage production of new collagen. Agnes RF creates a fresh, youthful appearance by allowing the following:

Facial sculpting of jowls and neck
Submental fat reduction
Under eye bags reduction
Smoothing of superficial wrinkles around the eyes and mouth
Long lasting reduction of acne (see Acne Facial)
Removal of sebaceous hyperplasia
Removal of syringomas

During treatments, a numbing cream is applied to the treatment area and patients may elect to utilize nitrous oxide for comfort. Following facial sculpting treatments, hydrocolloid dressings are applied to the treatment areas and are to be left in place for 48 hours to promote fibrinolysis, angiogenesis and wound healing. Bruising is rare but may occur. Mild swelling will resolve over 1-2 weeks. Continued improvement is seen progressively over a period of months. Following acne or benign growth removal, no dressings are required, but gentle post-procedure skin care is recommended.

For optimal results, a series of two treatments, 2-4 months apart is recommended.

Aesthetic Services

The Agnes Acne Facial offers a long-lasting solution for acne without significant downtime or discomfort. As a small number of sebaceous glands are responsible for the majority of acne breakouts, selective removal of inflamed sebaceous glands results in clearing of acne. During the procedure, a specialized microinsulated needles is used to deliver radiofrequency energy precisely to targeted, unwanted glands. Selective sebaceous gland destruction with Agnes is suitable for the following:

Patients who do not want to take oral medication
Adult acne
Chronic relapsing acne
Inflammatory acne
Enlarged blackheads in the nose

One treatment session consists of 2 visits. During the first visit extractions are performed and radiofrequency energy is delivered to the sebaceous glands. 2-3 days later, the patient returns to the office for superficial radiofrequency and cleaning of residual debris from the pores. Mild redness, swelling and tiny scabs may occur but are temporary. Sessions are performed at 1-3 month intervals, determined by when acne reappears. Up to 5 sessions may be required: 1-2 for minor acne, 3-5 for serious acne.

Additional acne treatment options include medical management, Isotretinoin, chemical peels, and the Carbon Peel.

The Aquagold device uses 24 karat gold-plated microneedles to deliver custom serums into the skin. Hyaluronic acid, botulinum toxin, PRP, and skin brighteners may all be included to smooth, tone and enhance the complexion. Results are seen 3-7 days after treatment and can be used following facials, laser treatments, or other injectables to maximize results.

Chemical peels are treatments applied to the skin in office to treat conditions such as acne or hyperpigmentation, or for general skin rejuvenation. The peels gently exfoliate the outer layer of skin and stimulate new skin growth. Benefits of chemical peels include:

Diminished signs of aging
Improved texture
A brighter complexion

For best results a series of 3-6 treatments are generally recommended.

Dermaplaning is a manual technique that removes facial hair and dead skin. During the procedure, a small surgical blade is gently passed over the skin repeatedly, exfoliating the surface. The process is painless and results are immediate. Benefits of dermaplaning include:

A smooth complexion
Removal of vellus hairs (“peach fuzz”)
Improved absorption of topical products
Priming of the skin for a chemical peel
A healthier, more radiant appearance

Microneedling is a minimally invasive collagen induction treatment that uses a microarray of fine-tipped needles to create tiny channels in the skin. This process stimulates the body’s healing mechanisms to build new collagen in the deeper layers of the skin and stimulate regeneration of the upper layers of the skin. The treatment is effective at improving a wide range of concerns:

Fading and smoothing of acne scars
Minimizing fine lines and wrinkles
Tightening of enlarged pores size
Brightening of overall texture
Lightening of melasma

Following treatment, the small perforations in the skin allow maximal absorption of therapeutic serums or PRP. Downtime is minimal with mild redness that resolves quickly.

A series of three treatments, scheduled monthly, is recommended for optimal results.

The Intraceuticals Oxygen Facial application method utilizes Hyperbaric Oxygen to promote the delivery of Intraceuticals professional strength hyaluronic acid serums to the skin. Oxygen facials instantly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by hydrating and plumping the skin. A series of 6 monthly treatments are recommended for optimum results.

The Oxygen Facial can be done immediately before an event without downtime, and pairs nicely with Dermaplaning.

Removal of benign skin growths (skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, cherry angiomas, milia)
Small normal skin growths appear commonly and can occur anywhere on the body. Skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, cherry angiomas, and milia are not harmful, but may be unwanted due to appearance or annoyance. Liquid nitrogen, snipping, electrocautery, and laser are all examples of effective techniques for removal. Lesions appear progressively over time and often require periodic removal to remain clear.

If you are interested in removal of these benign growths, please schedule a consultation with one of our providers to determine the best treatment options.

Additional Services

PRP is a therapy that utilizes platelets and proteins in the patient’s own blood to stimulate rejuvenation and speed healing. During the procedure, blood is drawn from the patient and then processed in the clinic to isolate the platelet rich plasma. This serum is then applied to laser treated or microneedled skin, or directly injected into the skin.

PRP may be used for the following:

Hair growth on the scalp

PRP is used in combination with laser and microneedling treatments to maximize results, and as an independent therapy on its own. For optimal results a series of treatments is recommended.

Melasma is a muddy brown blotchy discoloration of the face triggered by pregnancy, hormones or simply sun damage. It can be difficult to treat and often is recurrent with additional sun exposure. Treatment of melasma requires a multifaceted approach including many of the following:

Removal of triggers if possible
Effective sun protection
Bleaching or lightening medications
Chemical peels
Laser treatments

If you suffer from melasma and are interested in treatment, please schedule a consultation with one of our providers for more information and recommendations.

Hair loss can result from many underlying conditions including iron deficiency, thyroid disease, medications, autoimmune disease, stress, or simply age (androgenetic alopecia). Treatment of hairloss should always begin with a medical evaluation to determine the underlying cause. Once identified, targeted treatments to bring back lost hair, and maintain current hair can be correctly prescribed. Treatment options include the following:

Oral medications
Topical medications
Laser treatments
Injections including corticosteroids or PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma).

Treatments are often combined to achieve maximum results.

If you suffer from hair loss and would like to determine the cause and consider a treatment regiment, please schedule a consultation with one of our providers.

Scars resulting from injury or from a surgical procedure can be modified with laser treatments, microneedling, topical treatments or surgical revision.

Keloids, a form of scar that may form after an injury or grow spontaneously, can be cosmetically unacceptable, and may itch or be painful. Treatment with injections or lasers can help minimize the bulk of the scar and resolve the associated symptoms. Repeated treatments are often required for ongoing control.

Acne can result in scarring including discoloration, redness, pockmarks or keloids. Once active acne has been controlled, scarring can be improved and smoothed with targeted therapies. Treatment options include lasers and chemical peels to fade red and brown marks, resurfacing lasers to smooth texture, and microneedling to build new collage and smooth out pockmarks. For best results, a series of 3-6 treatments is recommended.

A consultation is recommended for evaluation and personalized treatment options for scarring.

A safe, patient-controlled inhaled analgesic system delivering 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide, Pro-Nox may be added for comfort and relaxation during any procedure.

Laser Treatments

Laser hair removal uses targeted light energy to produce permanent hair reduction. The laser light is absorbed selectively by hair follicles, heating and destroying the hair without harming the surrounding skin.

As only actively growing hair is affected, multiple sessions are required. On average, 6 sessions are recommended for optimal results, scheduled every 2-6 weeks depending upon the body area treated.

Patients may experience mild swelling, redness and irritation in the treatment area for a few days following the treatment.

Our laser can effectively treat all skin colors, and nearly all hair colors. If you are interested in laser hair removal, an evaluation and consultation with a provider at Arboretum Dermatology is recommended to determine the best treatment for you.

The LaseMD laser treatment brightens skin tone and restores a more youthful texture. This resurfacing treatment uses non-ablative, fractional laser energy delivered via many tiny beams to create micro-channels in the skin. The micro-channels stimulate production of new collagen and elastin and improve the overall health and quality of the skin at a cellular level. The LaseMD may be used on the face, neck, chest, back, arms and hands for the following:

To brighten and refresh the skin
To reverse signs of sun damage
To soften fine lines and wrinkles
To prevent age related changes of the skin
To minimize scars
To help fade melasma

The treatment is FDA-approved for reduction of actinic keratoses (precancerous growths caused by the sun).

At the time of the treatment, a numbing cream and cool air are used to maximize comfort. Once complete, targeted serums or PRP  may be applied to boost benefits and speed healing, as the porous nature of the laser treated skin allows maximum absorption and delivery of topical medications. Patients may experience redness and warmth in the treated area for several hours. Mild swelling resolves over several days, and a fine dryness of the skin may occur after 3-4 days. Continued improvement in texture and tone is seen over a period of months.

For optimal results, a series of three treatments, 4 weeks apart is recommended, and single treatments may be repeated every 6-12 months for continued improvement and maintenance.
